My first time around the block as a mom, I was a hockey mom. It was on a dare! It was the best thing I ever did for my son. Now my grandson is learning to skate and my daughter is an aerial dancer. Organized athletics are a foundation for balanced growth. Whether is a soccer team meeting at the local park or high school football or a private dance team, the lessons learned with organized sports are priceless. Imagine the single mom, who tries her best but doesn’t have the time to teach her son to hit a baseball. Whether he is a natural or tries all season, his whole team will celebrate his first home run. He will feel the support of his team and the pride that a video game will never give him. The team will provide emotional support and positive feedback. He will also learn to handle disappointment and losing.
The magic of parenting is that being actively involved with your children about their life is important. Showing your pride in them and supporting them through their wins and defeats
As with most aspects of parenting, being actively involved and talking with your children about their life is very important. Being proud of accomplishments, sharing in wins and defeats, and talking to them about what has happened helps them develop skills and capacities for success in life. The lessons learned during children's sports will shape values and behaviors for adult life.
Last Sunday I had the pressure of taking a free into class at Club Pilates In Matthews NC. The Studio just opened in September, I believe at 2211 Matthews Township Parkway, (704) 594-5670. The Studio was bright and the staff was friendly. I arrived early as advised and thought I was warned on my voicemail to bring grippy-socks, I brought fuzzy socks so had to invest in a pair of socks for $14 before I was allowed into class. I should have known!
Our Instructor Julie is the Franchise owner. She was very sweet and knowledgeable. The program is primarily by use of machines which was nice for me since I have mostly done floor exercises in my current Pilates class.
After allowing each of us to introduce ourselves, Julie lead us through a series of exercises that covered our legs, abdominal, shoulders and arms. The class was only 30 minutes and even though Pilates is not a high-cardio workout, it felt like a nice complete work out for one short class; fitting for an into. After the class Julie and another instructor were available to answer questions. It was not a high-pressure sale. Available classes are broken down by Levels: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5. I was told that the class schedule can be found online. Beginner packages were offered for 3 months. A package that would offer 2 classes a week for 12 weeks was offered for $163. (There were other packages as well) after the into, the price would go up to $160 a month.
All in all it was a great experience and I would recommend Club Pilates Matthews. It is not a hot and sweaty work out, but it is a complete, feel-good stretch lead by knowledgeable staff who seem to be handling business right!
